The US Army's aviation branch is one of the largest air arms in the world with more than 3,500 helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, and drones. We look back at the history of US Army aviation, describing its origins and its famous battles in Vietnam and taking the story through to recent NATO duty in Eastern Europe. Then we describe the Apache gunship, Chinook heavy lift and Blackhawk utility helicopters, Guardrail fixed wing surveillance aircraft and MQ-1 Grey Eagle drones, as well as smaller UAVs. Finally, we describe the main units of US Army Aviation, as well as reviewing the tactics used by these units and looking forward to the force's future technology.
