Excerpt from Thomas' Revised Ordinances of the City of Omaha Nebraska: Embracing All Ordinances of a General Nature in Force August 1, 1905, Together With the Charter for Metropolitan Cities; Revised Ordinances of the City of Omaha, Nebraska In preparation of these revised ordinances of the City of Omaha, it has been necessary to examine all ordinances passed since 1872, that is, since the date of the John P. Bartlett revision. That revision with a few expressed exceptions, repealed all general ordinances then in force. Twice since its issue the ordinances of the City have been published in book form, once in the compilation of Hon. Champion S. Chase in 1881 and once in the compilation of Hon. W. J. Connell in 1890. Thoroughly, however, as the editorial work was done on these two volumes and although each was issued under authority of the council, yet, unfortunately, neither was published as a revision expressly repealing all other ordinances. Neither, therefore, became a substitute for the then existing law of the City. Its authoritative law still remained unpublished in any collected and classified form.
