This book comes from a very personal place. I always longed for a pet, Finally, after much pleading, Tootsie, a mini dachshund, came along, followed a few years later by Chika, a Pomeranian. Tootsie and I were inseparable. When she became a star in my arms, the poem, The Rainbow Bridge was: source of consolation Tootsie missed meeting my daughter by a few months, but Chika was around when Ishanvi was born and became a much-loved part of her early life. Chika became a 'star when Ishanvi was a few years old and she could not for the life of her figure out where he'd gone. So, my mother made up a story for her about how Chika had become a star and that was her source of consolation. That's how this book came about, through years of telling these stories. I hope it will help children deal with a subject that we normally don't address - the loss of a loved one.
