First introduced in 1997, the original Spyderco Native quickly established itself as a benchmark in affordable, lightweight folding knives, featuring a patented reversible "barrel-bolt" pocket clip and made-in-USA craftsmanship. Responding to user demand for an extended version with enhanced ergonomics, Spyderco developed the Native Chief prototype in 1999, refining it over the years despite challenges with longer blades and lock mechanisms.
