In 1848 Mr. Lloyd, the English consul at Bucharest, an old friend of Marco Gessi, perceiving in Romolo an intelligent mind united to the knowledge of several languages, among which were Turkish, Russian, and Greek, took him into his office at Bucharest, where he remained till the declaration of war against Russia by the Allied Powers.
