Five decades after the July 1967 Rebellion in Detroit there are still fierce debates over how to define the events which changed the course of African American history during the period of the transition from Civil Rights to African American Liberation. Abayomi Azikiwe sums up the lessons from 1967 and their implications for the contemporary racially charged atmosphere existing in the United States during the second decade of the 21st century.
