The alliitance which France gave to America is faid to have been hinted at in the debate, and yet, prob' curia in verfique the Speaker fat unmoved in his chair, like the devoted patriots of Rome, ready to receive the Gauls upon the ruins of their Country. I do not impute bad mo rives to every man who has ufed this intemperate language. Like Dogberry and Verges in the play, their zeal may ex ceed their powers of thought, and their fkill in language. Still Dogberry was a lucky fellow at detecting a confpi racy, and Verges, good foul, was as hohelt as the {kin between his brows.
